Kaysar Rentals and Shiny Wheels top Carz’s Canberra ranking. One of the two publishes a weekly rate, from $265.
Published weekly rates, cheapest first. The other one quotes on request.
Weekly rates re-read on 29 Oct 2026. They may have changed since, so check with the operator before you book.
Only true independents: Australian-owned, Canberra-local, no international franchises and no networks of three or more branches. Built for anyone renting by the week or the month.
The Carz score is the Google rating, weighted by how many people gave it. We add 50 ratings at the Australian average (4.43★) to every business, so the same rating counts for more when more people gave it. Shiny Wheels’s 5.0★ from 19 ratings scores 4.588. Kaysar’s 5.0★ from 51 scores 4.719.

Part of Kaysar Group, which its site says was founded in 2024 and also runs a finance and mortgage division. The Canberra base is in Dunlop, in the north-west, and a second one is in Strathtulloh, outside Melbourne. Most of the published fleet is vans: Renault Master, Ford Transit and Toyota HiAce, one of them refrigerated. The two cars are a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Kluger, both hybrids, and every vehicle on the list is driven on a car licence.
Its FAQ says rentals include comprehensive insurance, roadside assistance, registration and maintenance, and that its Canberra cars are “suitable for rideshare, personal, or business use”. Rates are by quote only. It publishes no bond, minimum age, kilometre allowance or overseas-licence rule.
Who it’s for: a mover who needs a cargo van, or a rideshare driver who wants insurance included. Who it’s not for: anyone who needs a price or the rules in writing before they call.
5.0★ from 19 Google ratingsCarz score 4.588Gungahlin
The only published weekly rate on the list, from $265.
Weekly from
$265
Founded in 2022, with its office at 4 Gribble Street in Gungahlin. It is the only operator on this list that prints a price: a Suzuki Baleno hatchback from $265 a week, a Mitsubishi SUV from $275 and a Kia Cerato sedan from $310. Comprehensive insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance come with every rental. Weekly hires renew week by week, and there is a month-to-month option for longer stays.
Its FAQ answers in general terms (“Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old”), so we list its minimum age as not published, and the same goes for its overseas-licence rule. It publishes no bond or kilometre allowance either.
Who it’s for: someone who wants a weekly price before they ring, for a hire of a week or a few months. Who it’s not for: anyone under 21, or on an overseas licence, who needs the rule in writing first.
Rental Guy in Watson (4.7★ over 21 ratings) passed the floor but is not listed: it has no review describing a rental since February 2025, and its website domain is parked, so we could not confirm it still trades. Three other businesses scored higher than Rental Guy and were left out under the methodology.
Splend (4.8★ over 119 ratings) sells car-ownership plans to rideshare drivers; its site calls them “The smarter road to ownership for rideshare”. evee (4.9★ over 42) is a platform where hosts rent out their own electric cars. Lennock FlexiWheels (4.8★ over 26) is a car subscription from one of Canberra’s largest car dealers.
Six things decide whether you can rent: what a week costs, how long you must commit, what you have to put down, how far you can drive, how old you must be, and whether an overseas licence works.

Hollow is the Google rating, solid is the Carz score. The fewer ratings a business has, the further its score drops towards the Australian average.
The Carz score starts from the Google rating and counts how many ratings stand behind it, so a 5.0 from 19 people cannot beat a 5.0 from 51. We pulled every car rental business in Canberra and Queanbeyan from Google Maps on 29 October 2026 and scored it this way.
The technical name is a Bayesian average, the method IMDb uses for its Top 250. Every business starts with 50 notional ratings at the Australian average, and its real ratings are added to those. The Australian average is 4.432★, measured across the 677 rated independent car rental operators in our national census. The Carz score is printed beside every entry, on the same star scale, so the order can be checked without trusting us.
The floor is at least 15 ratings and 4.3★. We excluded international brands, networks with three or more branches, subscriptions, peer-to-peer marketplaces, chauffeur services and businesses that do not rent cars. Five independent car rental businesses in Canberra and Queanbeyan were compared; 3 have a Google rating and 2 have none, so those 2 were classified but never scored; all 3 rated ones passed the floor and 2 were published.
Some listings Google files under car rental are something else, and their own sites or reviews say so. 24CARE Australia, Diligent Care Services and Disability Aging And Community Care Services provide disability and aged care. Asset Construction Hire rents construction equipment. Of the two compared businesses with no rating, A2B Car Rentals is a Sydney company with a Canberra listing, and Budha dal transport has no website.
Rates and rules were read from each operator’s own website on 29 October 2026, never from a directory, an aggregator or a booking site. Where an operator publishes nothing, the table says Not published; it never says “no”.
Compiled by the team at Carz, which also builds the software some of these operators run on. We say it here rather than bury it. Nothing on this page is paid for, and no operator can buy a position on it.
Canberra operators can read about Carz’s car rental software. Using it has no bearing on the order above.
No operator on the list states a minimum age. Shiny Wheels’ FAQ only describes what most rental companies do. Ask before you book, especially if you are under 25.
Neither states its own rule. Shiny Wheels’ FAQ says an international driving permit may be required, as general advice. Bring one if your licence is not in English, and confirm before you travel.
Both operators with a website include insurance. Kaysar includes comprehensive insurance, roadside assistance, registration and maintenance. Shiny Wheels includes comprehensive insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance.
Only Kaysar mentions it. Its FAQ says its Canberra cars are suitable for rideshare. Shiny Wheels publishes no rule either way.
There is no day-against-week comparison to draw. Shiny Wheels publishes weekly rates only, from $265 for a hatchback, and nobody on the list publishes a daily rate.
To compare a week, ask each operator for the same car and the same dates, and ask what the bond is on your card type before you compare totals.
Canberra has few independent car rentals. Of the 40 businesses Google Maps files under car rental in Canberra and Queanbeyan, five are independent car rentals. The rest are international brands and their airport and suburban desks, van and truck hire, car-share bays, a peer-to-peer platform, subscriptions, chauffeur services and businesses that do not rent cars at all.
Two of the five have no rating yet, and we could not confirm that a third still trades, so the list stops at two. Compare with Sydney, the nearest city on these lists, or see every city on the rankings hub.

Neither operator publishes its own overseas-licence rule. Shiny Wheels’ FAQ says an international driving permit may be required, written as general advice rather than as its policy. Confirm with the operator before you travel.
Kaysar Rentals says its Canberra cars are suitable for rideshare, personal or business use. Shiny Wheels publishes no rideshare rule.
Three businesses that scored higher than Rental Guy were left out under the methodology. Splend sells car-ownership plans to rideshare drivers. evee is a platform where hosts rent out their own electric cars. Lennock FlexiWheels is a car subscription run by a Canberra car dealer. ACT Chauffeurs, a chauffeur service, is out as well, and so are international brands such as SIXT, Avis, Hertz and Europcar, and van and truck networks. Rental Guy in Watson passed the floor but is not listed: it has no review describing a rental since February 2025, and its website domain is parked, so we could not confirm it still trades.
