Adelaide’s best independent car rental companies in 2026, ranked by a transparent points system over Google ratings — a short, honest list of the operators you can actually verify.
75 operators across 9 cities, each one read on its own website and ranked on its published Google rating. No chains, no airport franchises, no accident-replacement fleets — and the points printed beside every entry so you can check the order yourself.
The short answer
Australia’s independent car rental market is large, well rated and almost entirely unpriced in public. Of the 75 operators on these lists, only 9 publish a weekly rate anywhere on their own website — even though weekly and long-term hire is what most of them actually sell. The cheapest published weekly rate in the country is $150/week.
This is the whole list. Read from each operator’s own site in August 2026; where a business quotes by email or sends you to a booking engine, it is not here — which is most of them.
| Operator | City | From |
|---|---|---|
| Shad Rentals | Sydney | $150/week |
| 2Ezy Car Rentals & Repairs | Melbourne | $160/week |
| Cazoom Rentals | Brisbane | $169/week |
| Rent Wize Cars | Adelaide | $175/week |
| Beepz Auto Solutions | Brisbane | $180/week |
| EZ Car Rentals | Melbourne | $195/week |
| Hornsby Car Hire and Rental | Sydney | $200/week |
| Baraka Car Rentals | Melbourne | $240/week |
| ZA Car Rental | Sydney | $300/week |
Age is the first door, and it moves a lot. Most operators start at 21 or 25. A few go lower: Dream Car Rental in Perth hires its standard range from 18, Burswood from 19, and Surfers Rent A Car on the Gold Coast from 20 with no young-driver surcharge — it lands in the excess instead. If you are under 25, the city matters less than the operator.
A handful say plainly that they run no credit check. Shad Rentals in Sydney advertises no credit check, no income check and no visa requirement; Long Term Car Rental on the Gold Coast and Rent Wize in Adelaide say the same in fewer words. Nobody else mentions it either way.
Rideshare is not a given — and the bans are not obvious. Some operators are built for it and say so. Others prohibit it in the contract while looking like any other rental: CarNet in Sydney and City Centre in Perth both forbid commercial use, and both sit near the top of their city. If the car is how you earn, read that clause before you book.
4 of the 75 have no working website at all. They are still here, still well rated, and listed without a link — because a business that earned its rating should not disappear from a ranking just because its domain lapsed. It does mean the only way to check anything is the phone.
Every rated car rental agency in each metropolitan area is pulled from Google Maps through the Places API, then scored with a points system printed beside each entry: every tenth of a star above 4.0 is worth 10 points, and every tenfold increase in ratings is worth 15. A higher score always outweighs volume, but a business with thousands of ratings is not invisible next to one with forty. The floor is 15 ratings and 4.3★.
We exclude international brands, multi-state and multi-branch networks, accident-replacement fleets, chauffeur and wedding services, campervan and 4WD specialists, dealerships with a rental sideline, and peer-to-peer marketplaces. Each city page says which businesses came off the list and why.
The count beside each rating is Google’s ratings total, which includes people who left stars without writing anything — so it runs higher than the review count you may see elsewhere. Prices are the lowest advertised on each operator’s own site; where none is published, we say so rather than guess.
Compiled by the team at Carz, which also builds software for independent rental operators. We say so on every page: the ranking is worth nothing to us if it is not worth something to the person reading it.
