The short answer
Ranked by review-weighted Google rating (July 2026), Perth’s best independent car rental operators are TAK8 (5.0★ across 528 reviews), Burswood Car Rentals (42+ years, from $25/day), Perth City Car Rentals, Ace Rent A Car, Aries and Wembley. Budget hire starts at $24–25/day — all Western Australian family businesses, no international chains.
Perth’s independents are institutions. The city’s isolation kept the east-coast networks out for decades, so family operators grew deep roots instead: 42 years at Burswood, 30+ at Ace, 20+ at Perth City. We ranked all rated car rental operators in Perth and kept only the true independents: Western Australian-owned, no international chains, no national networks.
How we ranked them
Every operator was pulled from Google Maps in July 2026 and scored with a review-weighted (Bayesian) rating with a floor of roughly 15 reviews. We excluded international brands (Dollar; the NZ-based Lucky Rentals), national networks (Go With The Gecko) and non-consumer fleets. Prices are the lowest advertised on each operator’s own website; where none is published, we say so.
The top 6
1. TAK8 Car Rental — 5.0★ (528 reviews)
Best overall — and most flexible. A perfect 5.0 across 528 reviews, the strongest score in Perth. East Perth operator renting by the hour, day or long term with no hidden fees; watch for promos like a $40/day Suzuki Swift.
2. Burswood Car Rentals — 4.8★ (1,209)
Best institution. Forty-two years family-run, with Burswood and Perth City offices and the widest independent fleet in town — budget hatches, corporate and long-term plans, luxury, utes, EVs, even trailers — plus airport and hotel delivery. From $25/day.
3. Perth City Car Rentals — 5.0★ (34)
Best new fleet. Victoria Park family operator (20+ years) whose cars are all six months old or newer, hybrids and EVs included. Quote-based.
4. Ace Rent A Car — 4.7★ (332)
Best airport budget. A 30-year WA independent (not the NZ chain of the same name) with three branches — Redcliffe by the airport, Victoria Park and Mandurah — free airport shuttle and low-excess options. From $24/day (Kia Picanto); airport specials from $39/day.
5. Aries Car Rental — 4.6★ (371)
Best CBD-airport combo. East Perth office for the city, Kewdale depot for the airport, free shuttle between plane and wheel. From $25/day.
6. Wembley Car Rentals & Sales — 5.0★ (17)
Best try-before-you-buy. A licensed used-car dealer with a rental arm — rent the car first, buy it if it fits. Quote-based.
What the list says about the Perth market
Two patterns: longevity — Perth’s market rewards operators who stay (three of the six have 20–42 years of history) — and the dealer-plus-rental hybrid: Wembley (and Maddington’s Gaadi, just below the review cutoff) pair a used-car yard with a weekly rental fleet, monetising the same cars twice. Published prices cluster tightly at $24–25/day, the most price-competitive floor of any city in this series.
Compiled by the team at Carz — we build the operations platform that independent rental operators like these run on: weekly billing, digital contracts, inspections and collections in one place. Run a fleet? See how it works. Also see: Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the cheapest car rental in Perth?
- Among independents with published rates: Ace Rent A Car from $24/day (Kia Picanto), and Burswood Car Rentals and Aries Car Rental both from $25/day. TAK8 runs promos like a $40/day Suzuki Swift and also rents by the hour.
- Is Ace Rent A Car in Perth part of the New Zealand Ace chain?
- No — it’s a common confusion. Perth’s Ace Rent A Car (acerent.com.au) is an independent Western Australian business with 30+ years of history and three WA branches; the New Zealand-based “Ace Rental Cars” (acerentalcars.com.au) is a separate trans-Tasman chain. We ranked the WA independent.

- Ace Rent A Car has a Redcliffe branch by the airport with a free shuttle and airport specials from $39/day; Aries runs a Kewdale depot with a free airport shuttle; and Burswood delivers cars to the airport and hotels.
- How was this ranking calculated?
- We pulled every rated car rental operator in Perth from Google Maps (July 2026), scored each with a review-weighted (Bayesian) average, required roughly 15+ reviews, and excluded international brands (Dollar, the NZ-based Lucky Rentals), national networks and non-consumer fleets. Prices are the lowest advertised on each operator’s own website.
